“Legacy” (2008-2010) traces the lineage of public housing back to its Old World origins in the work of European Modernist architects like Walter Gropius, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and Le Corbusier, whose output provided the utopian prototype for the bastardized projects of later generations. I opt for black and white over color photography to privilege form over content and make manifest the architectural intent of the featured constructs. The clarity of lines, shapes and angles extrapolates from these spaces an abstract, theoretical predisposition at odds with accommodating the needs of a live community.
